An explanation of “Dear you” March 6, 2009

The song “you” (composed by dai) from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is one of my favorites, along with its many derivatives.
Many of these versions can be found on Youtube, among other places. I’ve seen so many of them mislabeled, usually with the “Dear you” prefix. So, I, with my nitpicky nature, felt that it might help if I unload everything I know about it here. I’ll include links to each one if I can find them, drawing from existing youtube videos for convenience.

- you is the original BGM from the CD Thanks/you by dai, the composer of much of the Higurashi soundtrack. There are two other versions on the same CD: you (M.box fuu) and you (Vocal). The vocal version is sung by Yuduki (also Romanized as “Yuzuki”). This vocal version is one of the most widespread ones; it is VERY often mislabeled as “Dear you” or “you -Visionem im Spiegel-”
- Other songs from Thanks/you that share the main motif from “you” are Thanks, Confession, Birth and Death, Omoi, and Omoi (Vocal).

A high-quality mp3 for the instrumental version of “you” can be found at dai’s own website, http://www.geocities.jp/iwamud/index.html, in the mp3 section.
- The Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai Original Soundtrack (for the game) contains three songs that have the motif: you -destructive, Uro, and Cradle song, all instrumental.
- The sountrack also contains “you (M.box),” “Birth and death,” “confession,” “Thanks,” and “you,” all five identical to their appearances on Thanks/you.
you -destructive – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNyu_Gqihck
- you -Visionem im Spiegel, from image album Kakeramusubi, has the same lyrics and vocalist as “you (Vocal).” It is often simply labeled “you” or given the “Dear you” prefix.
-The title track of the other image album, Kokoro Musubi, also contains the melody.
you -Visionem im Spiegel – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-lxU3XJ46I
Kokoro Musubi – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YF11uvLhdvY
- The four “true” Dear you songs are Dear you -Cry-, Dear you -Feel-, Dear you -Kind-, and Dear you -Hope-, released on the Dear you image song CD. -Cry-, sung by Yuduki, is Rena’s song; -Feel-, sung by Kotoha Minoru, is for Mion; -Kind-, sung by Yukimiya Hinaki, is for Satoko; and -Hope-, by Hotarubi Kakeru, is for Rika. (In truth, I’m not really sure if Dear you is official, but I’m inclined to think so due to the inclusion of Yuzuki.)
- Omoi -You were in the wind of summer-, sung by Yuzuki Kaoru, is found on the same CD, but it doesn’t have the “Dear you” prefix.

- Confession (Vocal) and Thanks (Vocal) are from the yours CD by dai. Based on the BGM with the same names, they are sung by Yuduki, and they serve as two of Shion’s image songs. Often mislabeled “Dear you -Confession-” and “Dear you -Thanks-”.
-The instrumental tracks Kokoro, Don’t Cry, and Kairi use the “you” motif. Heppoko Sanbun Cooking and Ikuseisou also have elements of “thanks”.
-hello and the hidden track that follows it don’t exactly have the “you” motif, but the general sound is close enough to be reminiscent of it.
-yours includes versions of Birth and death, Cradle song, Uro, you -destructive, thanks, confession, you (M.Box fuu), and you that have some subtle differences from their Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai Original Soundtrack counterparts.

thanks – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8-8HRl3gNk
- The Higurashi Daybreak Original Soundtrack has a rather… er… interesting version of thanks.
thanks – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ih8Sj_Mjvw
- Ano Hi, Ano Basho, Subete ni “Arigatou” is the ending theme for the Tsumihoroboshi-hen drama CD. Based on “Thanks,” it is sung by Keiichi’s voice actor, Hoshi Souichiro. It is very, very often mislabeled “Dear you -Trust-” (which is the title of a fanmade version, also for Keiichi); this one irritates me to no end.
-The CD also contains an off-vocal version and two versions with alternate arrangements.
- Yukino Satsuki, the voice actress for Shion and Mion, sang versions of you and Thanks for the Meakashi-hen drama CD.
-The CD also contains off-vocal versions of both songs.

- With “you” -Kizuna- was released on a special mail-in CD. It features the cast of the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai anime. Often labeled “Dear you -Bonds-”, based on the title’s English translation.
With “you” -Kizuna- – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOnXiFVg7Lc
- On the CD released by M.Graveyard (dai’s circle) at C73, there are a few more songs. Thanks features the vocals from the yours vocal version on the instrumental from Meakashi-hen. Bouquet of funeral is an arrangement of “Cradle song”.
- I’m not sure if it was actually on the CD, but a different version of “you” seems to be associated with this CD. you (Botsu), translated to “you (unused),” uses the vocals from the Thanks/you version with new instrumentation. According to dai, it was going to be on yours, but he felt that he’d be overusing that set of vocals. At one point, the mp3 was available at dai’s site, but I can’t find it anymore. The link is still alive, though.
you (Botsu) – http://mgraveyard.cze.me/upload/src/you_botu.mp3
With regards to English translations of lyrics, Atashi has translated all of the songs (with vocals) listed here but two. I, myself, have translated “you”, by Yukino Satsuki, and “Omoi (Vocal)”, by Yuduki.
Alright, I’ve covered most of the ones from “official” albums (official as in either non-doujin or by dai himself); there are many other fanmade versions. If there’s anything significant that I’m missing, please let me know.
Hope this helps.

Thanks!!! Of course it helps
^^
A question, can I translate this to Spanish and put it in my blog? Of course, giving you the strict credit, and linking back to this post? Because is so helpful and I know there are so much confusions with those songs u.u…
Waiting for you answer ^^
@Linda_29693:
Sure.
WOW.
Thank you VERY MUCH!
I had already heard of certain mislabelings, but I wasn’t too clear on it. I remember seeing ‘Confession’ labeled as a ‘Dear You’ but then learning it was just a different song. (Which makes sense too, since it sounds nothing like the ‘Dear You’s.)
Thanks again for clearing it up!
Hey this is a great list. I’ve been looking for some way to track down a particular version, and this at least lets me eliminate a bunch. I’m probably looking at one of the unofficial ones. Basically I’m looking for the sheet music for it, but no luck so far. If you have the time and if you know, could you tell me which version this is? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_EWl6o_wB4
If you don’t know or are too busy it’s no big deal, thanks for any help.
Actually nevermind. After three days of searching I found it 5 minutes after posting here, must be a good luck charm.
this clears things up immensely
and what about the band “Republic of Mosaku Hattori”: they even released an doujin album named “Matsuri no ato” with the song “Ano hi, ano basho, subete ni -arigatou-” (aka. Dear you Trust), also one of the remixes of trust is from Hattori. for searching use these kanjis: 羽っ鳥もさく共和国
example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A350faCcdRc
when I read dai’s homepage (http://www.geocities.jp/iwamud/index.html) I saw that there is another doujin album: (973) M. Graveyard with thanks remix (track 1), you remix (track 10), bouquet of funeral (track 3) habe all this tune
also in when they sing (Umineko Image Album) there is a new version of you ~beloved criminal~ (I haven’t listened to all umineko tracks yet.)
@chiaki:
I believe the “Republic of Mosaku Hattori” songs would fall under the “fanmade” category. However, one of the remixes on the “Ano Hi, Ano Basho, Subete ni ‘Arigatou’” CD is arranged by someone with a similar name; I’ll add the specific names for those soon to check.
Thanks for letting me know about M.Graveyard. Listening now.
And I’m afraid I haven’t listened to any music from Umineko yet. Won’t stay that way for long, though.
Hattori Mosaku’s doujin arrange CD was actually where “Ano Hi, Ano Basho, Subete ni “Arigatou”" originated. (The song was arranged and lyric written by Hatori Fuuga, the owner of the circle.) “Matsuri no Ato” was first sold in Comiket 72 (Aug., 2007), then later on covered by Hoshi Souichirou as Tsumihoroboshi-hen drama CD’s ED (Feb., 2008).
Ah, I see. Thanks for clearing that up.
Thanks so much–this has DEFINITELY helped clear up a lot for me when trying to find out more about the You songs!
many many thank heaps =D
this has been ultra helpful!
very true how you cannot tell from the fanmade to the official ones anymore
You are awesome.

Thanks. I’ve been confused about which ones were official and which ones were fanmade. I have to rename a lot of music in WMP. >____<"
Please help! Yuzuki kaoru sings “you were in the wind of summer(omoi )” right???
Is yuzuki kaoru , is she shion sonozaki???
Does yuzuki kaoru sing : visionen im spiegel, sora no mukou , confession, fake dream(sorayume) and thanks???????
First of all, Yuzuki Kaoru (柚木薫) and Yuzuki (癒月) are two different people, and the latter is the one singing Dear You Cry from the “Dear You CD” and the official vocal version from Thanks/you, visionen im spiegel remix (from kakera musubi as mentioned), sora no mukou, confession, sorayume and thanks (last 4 from c73 yours as mentioned), and most are from Shion Sonozaki’s perspective.
Yuzuki Kaoru is only known for “Omoi – You were in the wind of summer” from “Dear You CD”, which is -btw- one of many Shion Sonozaki’s theme songs (who knows if she also goes under other stage names as this name is only credited ONCE). And btw, do not confuse with the actual voice actors from the anime (and their official anime character songs), as in the case of Shion, whose VA is Yukino Satsuki who also has a seperate rendition of “You”, as posted by XZX
Awesome post, can you help identify which version of you is this please?

Been desperately trying to find the flac, Thanks!
this is the most official version sung by Yuduki from the album Thanks/you, and this track is just titled “You (vocal)”, no visionen im spiegel whatsoever. I doubt somebody has the flac version as this cd was realsed as a doujin cd since 2002
Thank you!!!
Somebody uploaded an (almost?) complete collection of higurashi song here http://www.nyaa.eu/?page=torrentinfo&tid=92531&showfiles=1
And the song is from album Fanfic 2005 Thanks you 19 – You Vocal.flac
Dunno if he got the date wrong or it was rereleased on 2005, but I finally got the song on flac because of you. Thanks again.
dai’s site no longer has mp3s, just a redirect to mgraveyard. As to be expected, some of the YouTube links have gone; however there’s a nice 40 minute compilation at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OOl0yA2v2g which – even though it’s the same tune – is great to put on while doing stuff (drawing, programming, or just chilling out). My favourite is the “feel” version; that girl has a lovely voice.
