Kawada Mami, To Aru Majutsu no Index OP

Great song – seems to be from Index’s point of view. Notes on kanji meanings follow English lyrics.

PSI-missing
Vocals: Kawada Mami
Lyrics: Kawada Mami
Music: Nakazawa Tomoyuki
Arrangement: Nakazawa Tomoyuki / Ozaki Takeshi

Whether it’s that reason that I live here
Or everything that I encounter here,
Even if it were a different world,
No matter where I am, these feelings won’t waver.

The pain from the chest being pierced –
I turn my back at the content spectators
Who would laugh even at that.

Fate invites the obvious suffering.
My trembling feet remember… with certainty.
Illusions alone cannot protect –
An unreliable power.
Because I now know with these hands, I’m not lost.

With the joy that everyone knows
And the answer that this heart understands,
Even if there is a different future,
No matter where I go, these feelings won’t waver.

Without carrying anything, I continue on
So that I won’t be puzzled by the garbage called knowledge that I hold in my body.

Chance surpasses hundreds, thousands of certainties.
I concentrate the eyes that see the end… and leap out.
I don’t need these countless, careless wishes.
I return my true heart… to the common world.

Fate invites the obvious suffering.
My trembling feet remember… with certainty.
In that direction, is there heaven? or hell?
Come, because I now know all…

Because I now know with these hands, I’m not lost.

Notes:
-Verse 2, line 2: Sung as それをわらう幸せな者達へ (sore wo warau shiawase na monotachi), the corresponding kanji in the lyrics reads それを嘲笑う傍観者達へ. While “warau” and “shiawase” mean “laughing” and “happy”, respectively, 嘲笑う (azawarau) and 傍観者 (boukansha) mean “sneer/ridicule” and “bystander”, with sharply different connotations.
-Verse 3, line 3: Sung as ゆめ (yume, “dream”), kanji reads 幻想 (gensou, “illusion”).
-Verse 5, line 2: Sung as ガラクタ (garakuta, “junk”), kanji reads 知識 (chishiki, “information” or “knowledge”).
