Eiko Shimamiya – Kyuudou no Hito -remix-

Eiko Shimamiya, O

“Kyuudou” is actually pronouced “gudou” in the song, but I’ll leave the title as it is because all other mentions of the song I can find refer to it as “Kyuudou”.

I can’t decide whether I like the original version or the remix more.

I will say right now that I do not really understand what this song means.

It’s too pure for even fish to live in –
Drinking and passing around that water,
The chosen people emit
An aura of baseless tranquility.

If I unload all of this baggage that’s too much to carry,
Things would be easier.
You tell me that like a prophet,
But I know that all too well.

You are higher, further, and purer
Than the person who searches for truth.
You should take this stained, earthly life on your back
And exit isolation.

I am again lower, closer, and warmer
Than the person who searches for truth.
I share until I rot away
With all of the people who are here.

That body that created life
Closed the beloved connection.
Alone inside the barrier it drew itself,
It is pondering this planet’s coming end.

If you are truly
A person similar to a god,
Then don’t sit there; don’t pray there;
Come here right now.

When it seems I’ll be crushed
By this baggage that’s too much to carry,
I want you to stroke my back
Like you would a baby.

You are higher, further, and purer
Than the person who searches for truth.
You should take this stained, earthly life on your back
And exit isolation.

I am again lower, closer, and warmer
Than the person who searches for truth.
I share until I rot away
With all of the people who are here.

With you who are there.

Words & Music by

  1. I don’t know if it matters seven years later, but I might know the meaning of the song, or at least what I get from reading this(which doesn’t make me very happy). From what I get from it, it’s kind of anti-religious, or at least pleading to people of faith (such as myself). Which religion isn’t said, but that’s my take. I’m Christian, so I interpret it as one. It seems like it’s saying people of faith stick to themselves basking in “baseless” tranquility. They tell her to cast off her burdens because she’ll be better off like she doesn’t already know that. They’re (supposedly) better than she who is still looking for the truth, so they should stop isolating themselves from her and take up her burdens with her. She’s lower then them, but she’s closer to the people around her and shares with them. Then she seems to be talking about God closing himself off from the world and pondering it’s destruction. Then she says, “If you’re really supposed to be like him, come help me. I want you to comfort me like a baby.” Really sad stuff. I’m kind of worried for her if she has this mindset, but also kind of sad regarding the kinds of people she would’ve had to meet to come to that.

This seems appropriate: “If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?” James 2:16
