C³ – Hana

Kitamura Eri, C³ ED1

There are several kanji in the lyrics with unusual readings. The least subtle and easiest-to-explain example would be the title – throughout the song, ‘hana’ (flower) is written as 雪華 (sekka, “snowflake”).

It would be tedious for me to explain the other instances to the point that they would lose their charm, so here’s the booklet scan if the furigana interests you: [link]

Flower of Snow
Lyrics: Yamasaki Hiroko
Composition: Ichikawa Jun
Arrangement: Nakanishi Ryousuke
Vocals: Kitamura Eri

The soft and tender moonlight shines down.
Fleeting lights of snow…
We join our numbed  hands together
And smile in the transparent city.

Envelop the entirety of this restless age.
Just release into the dyed night.

The white petals that shower down
Softly unravel my heart.
Melting in the palm of my hand, they captivate the moment.
Project the brilliant light of our destination
In the great beyond of the blue sky I gaze at.
Bring light to my uncertainty too, if you would.
Linked flower of snow, I implore,
Reach me now.

My wandering thoughts are scattered clouds.
Starlight, with its pull…
As I blow clouds of breath to keep them warm,
These hands sound out a song of prayer.

When you envelop and embrace the restless beats,
Look, the dyed night comes out to receive you.

The white petals that flutter down
Softly soothe my heart.
Born when they melt, they captivate life.
Line up the brilliant lights that are projected
In the great beyond of the blue sky I wish for.
Wipe away my sorrow, if you would.
I pray, may you reach
Beyond this reality.

The white petals, fluttering, dancing in air,
Softly land and pile within my heart,
As though packaging my calm and peaceful thoughts.
Believe in the brilliant lights that are projected
In the great beyond of the swaying blue sky.
Go onward and transcend transience.
Flower of snow given light, I implore,
Reach eternity.
