Nanou, Project Diva F 2nd ED, andLOIDs -All time best of nanou-

Through the magic of Japanese number readings, the title is pronounced “Glory Music”.

Minor note: original Japanese diverges from the romaji in a few places because I transcribed the Japanese directly from the CD booklet with differences intact, while the romaji follows the vocals as heard.

The second half of each chorus is fairly ambiguous. For example, it could be the vocalist’s own song and her own experiences speaking to her, or the listener’s music speaking to the listener, or it could be the vocalist speaking to the listener…

I, personally, believe that the answer is all three.

I don’t know if I’ve done the original lyrics justice. There’s just so much beauty in the original, its ambiguity, its rhythm; it was difficult for me to carry it over to English. As always, I encourage everyone to try learning Japanese for better appreciation, but songs like this remind me why I keep on doing what I do: words and music can have immense positive power over a person’s spirit, and this in turn drives their own creation. If I’ve managed to help keep the cycle in motion, then I’m happy.

The things that didn’t matter,
The things that I treasured the most…
All of it would leave my memory so quickly –
That was my unchanging everyday.

Colorless, transparent droplets of light
Flowing through my earphones…
Wanting so much to catch hold of them,
I’ve been listening all this time.

The things that I couldn’t say that day,
The night I cried, the morning after –
With all of that enclosed,
The melody rings out.

Becoming the wind, becoming the light,
Becoming the rhythm, becoming the sound,
Going toward you, going toward the world –
It would be great if I could fly out like that.
That day when I wanted to say it but couldn’t,
That day when I shed my tears –
It meant something; right now, it tells me
That I was alive.

I’m sure that in this world,
You just can’t walk on alone;
You never feel right without someone by your side,
So we get the urge to join hands.

But sometimes, that outstretched arm
Just can’t reach the thing you want to catch,
So the fear builds up little by little,
Until you’ve been terrified all this time.

The words begin to swim through the sky.
The atmosphere begins to tremble with sound.
The earphones now start to sing,
“I’m always right here for you.”

Resonating as one, overlapping,
Becoming a chord, singing together,
Hand-in-hand with you, hand-in-hand with the world –
It would be great if I could connect that way.
That melody that I loved so much,
That song that let me cry time and time again –
Right now, it tells me, “Always, whenever you need me,
I’ll be there to raise you up.”

Even if the entire world were to find happiness, watch, I’m sure,
Before you know it, someone somewhere would be feeling sad again,
So throughout the world, there’s always someone somewhere creating a song,
“So that there can be smiles and laughter tomorrow.”
Can you hear the voices? Can you hear the sound?
This is my genuine wish to make you smile;
This is my resounding melody.
