Kawada Mami – Angel // resident of the nightmare

Kawada Mami, c/w Jormungand OP Borderland

Personally, I find this song much better than the A-side. It’s nice to see slower songs from I’ve that manage to retain power. Pretty unmistakably Kazuya Takase, heh.

Angel // resident of the nightmare
Lyrics: Kawada Mami
Composition / Arrangement: Takase Kazuya

Hard to live
When did it start,
This path toward nights that are home to powerless words?

Why? Try to understand!
I’m in so much much pain…
―Oh, that’s right, you’re with me. That’s why it’s still like this.―

Jormungand – Borderland

Kawada Mami, Jormungand OP

Heh, that arranger credit. I honestly don’t think the music is that interesting (coupled song is better, too), but, well, it’s I’ve.

Been a while since I’ve done a Kawada Mami song. Fun English.

Borderland
Lyrics: Kawada Mami
Composition: Nakazawa Tomoyuki
Arrangement: Takanakazaki Tomotakeya

We have always stood on the borderland.
I’m enjoying the view from here.
Eeny, meeny, miny, moe…
much the same

pike or shield?
I don’t want to lose, but I don’t want to hurt others, either.
When I got it in my hands, I was sure
That I wouldn’t be able to go back.
Whose side are you on?

Mami Kawada – CLIMAX

Mami Kawada, LINKAGE

I don’t really get this song, so translation may be iffy. Then again, it might not be telling a clear story in the first place – I just did my best to make it sound as cool as possible, and that may well have been fine, haha.

CLIMAX
Lyrics: Mami Kawada
Music: Tomoyuki Nakazawa
Arrangement: Tomoyuki Nakazawa, Takeshi Ozaki
Vocals: Mami Kawada

Slowly, I stepped deep into a puzzling growth.
Don’t worry. Look behind – scars of deeply cut wounds.

【It approaches behind me. I turned around and looked.
‘Is somebody there?’Like reciting.
No one is here, yes, there was no one.
Only you know. There is the fear in your heart.】

To Aru Majutsu no Index II – See visionS

Mami Kawada, To Aru Majutsu no Index II OP2

See visionS
Lyrics: Mami Kawada
Music & Arrangement: Maiko Iuchi
Vocals: Mami Kawada

I’m always running after you. You are my ideal. You are me.

There was once a bird that couldn’t fly further than here.
With a pair of fine, unhurt wings, it rebuffed the blue sky.
【This place isn’t so bad. That sky isn’t that high. This place isn’t good, either.】

Don’t interrupt me
Lyrics: Mami Kawada

Curled up inside my chest,
I am here, and I have not lost.

Things won’t go according to the signs you’ve seen.

Mami Kawada – SATANIC

Mami Kawada, c/w To Aru Majutsu no Index II OP No buts!

Some parts of the lyrics were a bit confusing as to whom the words were referring to  – in particular, verses 4, 5, and 6. I thought about the general message of the song for a while, and I came to the interpretation that you see here.

One thing that has been known to happen with Index (and I think it’s a very good idea that more shows should make use of) is the use of coupled songs as insert songs. I wonder if that’ll happen with this one… The lyrics don’t seem to fit any of the characters who have already appeared, and I haven’t read the novels, so I don’t know how likely it is. We’ll see.

SATANIC
Lyrics: Mami Kawada
Music: Tomoyuki Nakazawa
Arrangement: Tomoyuki Nakazawa, Takeshi Ozaki
Vocals: Mami Kawada

Today, with a face that was about to burst into tears,
I was holding onto that hand that was outstretched again.
As you slept like an angel, I was watching you
Without feeling anything.

When we were young and powerless, we were strongly bound together,
And now, this room is not the place where I belong.

To Aru Majutsu no Index II – No buts!

Mami Kawada, To Aru Majutsu no Index II OP

No buts!
Lyrics: Mami Kawada
Music: Tomoyuki Nakazawa
Arrangement: Tomoyuki Nakazawa, Takeshi Ozaki
Vocals: Mami Kawada

I looked at the coin I was about to flip.
If it’s heads, go; if it’s tails, stay. First, let me hear your answer.

“Won’t you tell me or something?”
The angels watch and judge me, smiling.

linkage
Lyrics: Mami Kawada
Music: Tomoyuki Nakazawa
Arrangement: Tomoyuki Nakazawa, Takeshi Ozaki

I softly narrowed my eyes.
I saw right in front of me a path that diverged into countless others.
I pick the seedlings of my memories and search for the answer.
My voice sleeps in my heart.

MAMI KAWADA – a frame

MAMI KAWADA, c/w Shakugan no Shana S OP Prophecy

a frame
Lyrics: MAMI KAWADA
Music&Arrangement: TOMOYUKI NAKAZAWA/TAKESHI OZAKI
Vocals: MAMI KAWADA

In the moment when I blink, it all turns sepia.
The scenery I got used to seeing isn’t here today.

I lament in a useless picture that doesn’t run and fade.
I want to leave behind at least a final moment.

Shakugan no Shana S – portamento

Kawada Mami, Shakugan no Shana S insert song (episode 4), SAVIA

Requested by fred… on January 7, 2009. orz

Regarding the album title, which shows up in one of this song’s lines… Supposedly, savia is the Spanish word for the veins of a leaf, so the Japanese word that appears in the lyrics (葉脈, youmyaku) is pronounced savia. (However, apparently, savia in Spanish actually means tree sap.)

A difficult song to interpret, overall.

EDIT 11/01/2010: Apparently, this song was featured in Shakugan no Shana S. Time for a category switch.

portamento
Lyrics: Kawada Mami
Composition: Nakazawa Tomoyuki
Arrangement: Nakazawa Tomoyuki / Ozaki Takeshi

When both the spilling tears and the tree that withered away faintly rock the branches,
A single moment of summer’s blue suddenly flits past my eyes.

For some reason, the fading time is lonely.
With those eyes that seem to know everything, you look completely like an adult.
My smiling face felt the pain of being pierced.

Ah, if I gather the dead leaves now
And write a letter, could I meet you someday?
